The pursuit of a speeding BMW led to a crash between a California Highway Patrol unit and one from the San Diego Police Department, authorities said Saturday.
The incident began to unfold at approximately 10:49 p.m. Friday when a CHP San Diego Areaunit was stopped on Interstate 5 northbound, south of State Route 905, according to a CHP news release.
The patrol saw a white BMW pass their vehicle, lose control and come to a stop within the northbound lanes of I-5. Members of the CHP unit also observed a SDPD vehicle with its emergency lights activated approaching the BMW.
For reasons under investigation, the BMW fled at a high rate of speed on I-5, but crashed when trying to navigate the SR-905 transition. At that point, the CHP unit collided with an additional SDPD vehicle responding to the scene.
An unspecified number of officers involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital for treatment of unnamed injuries.
The driver of the BMW was taken into custody by SDPD on unspecified charges.
The crash is under investigation by the CHP San Diego Area. If any member of the public witnessed this crash, please contact investigators at (858) 293-6000.
