HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Temperatures Saturday afternoon reached the mid-upper 90s and it’ll be just as hot Sunday. one change though, there is an increasing chance for showers and storms Sunday which could potentially impact tailgates and the Texans home opener at NRG.It’ll be a partly cloudy day Sunday, and with a weak front parked to our north, there’s a chance a few thunderstorms could develop in the late afternoon and early evening. The exact placement of these storms is too variable to pinpoint, but there is some consistency with model data that suggests a few thunderstorms could approach NRG Park in the early evening. Be sure to stay weather aware and have a place to go if there’s thunder in the vicinity.Do you expect those summertime temperatures to continue?Yep. High temperatures should remain at or above 90 degrees for the next 10 days. Thankfully, we don’t foresee any 100-degree days, but the combination of heat and humidity could put the heat index into the triple digits. How long will we have to wait for our first fall front? At least 10 days…if not longer. There are hints that a “baby” fall front could roll in just after the start of astronomical fall on September 22, but we wouldn’t get too excited over those prospects just yet. What are you tracking in the tropics?Tropical storm Gordon formed over the weekend and another tropical low could develop off the east Coast next week, but neither pose a threat to the Gulf.
