Arena decision ‘very soon’; Beverly dies at 77; Officer dies

“Whatever decision we ultimately make, I need you to hear me. Chinatown, Washington Square West, Market East — you all matter to me. And all of Philadelphia matters to me,” said Mayor Cherelle Parker at a listening session she held Wednesday night at the Convention Center to hear community concerns about a proposed $1.5 billion project to build a new arena for the 76ers in Center City.The town hall follows a march over the weekend that protested the plan (see photos). The legend and soul singer, known best for his work with the funk group Maze, has died, his family announced via social media on Wednesday. Beverly retired from performing two months ago in Philadelphia, with a concert at the Dell Music Center. “He lived his life with pure soul as one would say, and for us, no one did it better.
